Tone is everything: Voice Usage and Vocabulary for Teaching Special Learners

Join Dr. Scott Price for an in-depth discussion of the uses of voice tone, facial expressions, body language, and vocabulary that are effective in working with special learners. This population of students often presents challenges in navigating social behaviors and social communication. Attendees will learn about what elements of our communication may be meaningless, irrelevant, or counterproductive for our students who are special learners, and modes of communication that may flip the learning situation to be meaningful, relevant, and productive for our special learners as they navigate their experiences in music making.

Scott Price is Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy at the University of South Carolina. He is internationally recognized for his work with student with autism and other special needs. He has been a featured presenter at the national conferences of the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, the Music Teachers National Association national conference, the Royal Conservatory of Music Teacher Education Summits, and the Korean Association of Piano Pedagogy. He currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees of The Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy.
